God's Grandeur

The world is charged with the grandeur of God. (A)
It will flame out, like shining from shook foil; (B)
It gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil (B)
Crushed. Why do men then now not reck his rod? (A)
Generations have trod, have trod, have trod; (A)
And all is seared with trade; bleared, smeared with toil; (B)
And wears man's smudge and shares man's smell: the soil (B)
Is bare now, nor can foot feel, being shod. (A)

And for all this, nature is never spent; (C)
There lives the dearest freshness deep down things; (D)
And though the last lights off the black West went (C)
Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs — (D)
Because the Holy Ghost over the bent (C)
World broods with warm breast and with ah! bright wings. (D)

    1. The failure of humans in the poem is that they are trying to rule the world but still dont “want to reck his rod” meaning they don't want to serve god they are not afraid of what will happen. Man's work is distracted and causing harm to the world, their work has spoile nature.

    2. People fail to understand the freshness of the earth, the newest things coming out of nature when man destroys it.

    3. Hopkin’s praise of nature relates to the praise of god because Hopkins believes that if mens in society or in nature start to reck his rod there will be no problem. Hopkins wants nature to be enlightened the way he praises god.

    1. In the poem, what is the failure of humans?
Humanity seems to loose sights of the close connection between god and nature.the speaker wants to know why don't the people take better care of the natural world. They show no respect of the power of god through our environment.

    2. According to the poem, what do the people fail to understand?
That nature is forever. Its will always be there. It is needed for our everyday lifestyle.the speaker assures us that morning follows night and light follows darkness l and that the holy ghost is always watching over the world.

    3. How does Hopkins praise of nature relate to the praise of god?

The holy ghost treats the nature of the world the same ways a bird would treat her unhatched eggs, with a sense of security, beauty and motion. Hopkins understands and see's the world differently than others. He praises nature and the holy ghost for its beautiful creation.

    1. The failure is man is their inability to protect the earth that god gave them and its environment/nature while constantly destroying it for their personal gain and not heeding gods authority and accepting his presence in the world with his creation

2.Humans fail to understand that nature will never die and that it will continuously go through a cycle of regeneration with god himself at the fore front/ helm

3.It relates because nature is something created by the omnipotent & omnipresent God. God treats nature with the highest level of care and compassion and gave it a role in sustaining our lives and the organisms around us. Hopkins understands the role of nature on this earth so he praises both god and his creation
